The weather was sunny (after the monsoon during the drive from Luxembourg) but the temperature overnight Saturday was minus 2 Deg C and we had ice on the washing up water on Sunday morning … brrrrrrh! However, mosquitos did not like the cool weather and stayed in bed – hoorah!

A great time as had by all and activities ranged from making colouful pirate parrots to pioneering contructions and a myriad of games and challenges.  Our Explorers slept in hammocks under plastic sheets strung from trees.

Within a few hours of our campaign launch we had a volunteer who has already visited one meeting and is well on the way to joining the team.

Volunteers as at Tuesday 15th May   5

The FNEL, Luxembourgish Scouts, organised a fun day for all Beavers called ‘Beaver on Tour’. The theme for the afternoon was Detectives. All the Beaver mascots were stolen by a 'thief' and the Beavers had to find various 'clues' in order to get back their mascots. It was indeed a fun filled afternoon of activities like sorting puzzles, going through mystery boxes, identifying sounds, digging for gold, making passport, fingerprinting, identifying smells, finding messages with Morse Code etc.

170 Beavers from all over Luxembourg attended this fun day and it was indeed a brilliant afternoon in lovely sunshine and a chance to interact with our local scouting friends.

Each of you will be asked to distribute postcards to potential contacts, posters will be everywhere (see below), Radio Ara will broadcast an interview with Rani, in the May edition (end April)  of the BLC magazine will be a full page advert plus an article about Helen Haselock's experience in joining Telstar and a repeat advert and  similar article from Lisa di Rollo in the June edition (end May).

We need all leaders, helpers, Exec members, SAS, parents and friends to help us find enough leaders to open a second Cub Pack and Scout Troop in the next year or so.

All our  leaders and helpers must be first aid trained every 3 years but now we have about 30% of all our Telstar group members certified and capable of delivering 1st Aid should it be needed.

 Congratulations to all – well done !

To celebrate this event, Telstar will be organising a march on the evening of 4th June to march from Place Guillaume to the British Embassy residence, where a Beacon will be lit at 2130, coinciding with over 2000 similar beacons being list all over the World to celebrate this tremendous occasion. The event will be synchonised with London with the assistance of Skype Luxembourg.

Joining us on this celebration march will be the Girl Guides and young people from the English language schools in Luxembourg.

All Telstar members above 10 years old are invited to this Beacon event, hosted by the British Embassy are welcome to attend this event (not just British members) and all Telstar members, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers may wear the Queen's Jubilee badge (above) throughout 2012.

Detailed arrangements will be given later.

Our plans to create a second Cub pack and hopefully a second Scout Troop in due course will further enhance these numbers. An intensive leader recruitment drive will start in April to find leaders to enable this expansion.

Numbers are not the only measure of success, as a high quality scouting experience is the objective, but we must be doing something right.
