We rely on all parents, leaders and friends to dig out their unwanted Christmas Gifts, nearly new clothes, toys, DVDs, books, scouting/camping equipment, chinaware etc so that we can raise money for our ScoutHome building project.

The Beaver Leaders will provide refreshments at the sale, as well as a cake stall.

Please publicise the event to all your friends, both in terms of finding saleable items and to come to the sale on the 17th …. it is great fun. We will make colour flyers available shortly, but you can email the poster to all your friends.

Donations can be brought to the school on Tuesday 13th, Thursday 14th frpm 1600 to 1715 (the Beaver meetings) and Friday 15th from 1600 to 1930

We don't yet know how this will affect the old BSWE/Benelux internal structure but hopefully this will not take too long to decide and we may have more news after the BSWE AGM on 9th March ( and we may not)

This re-organisation has been pending for 3 years and is long overdue.

Anyone for a transfer to the South Pacific?

Due to the extreme cold, cancellation was considered but after a detailed risk assessment it was decided to go ahead but parties of Explorers due to join the camp from Brussels and Waterloo were cancelled.

The overmight temperature was -15DegC plus a wind-chill factor of -9DegC – effective temperature -24DegC.

Discretion being the better part of valour, it was decided that the group would not sleep out in tents but in a nearby army hut and that the weekend  be curtailed to just a 24 hour activity.

A major obstacle was a deep frozen cess pit and temporary chemical toilets were required.

Despite the cold, rabbits were skinned, cleaned and cooked over an open fire and 40kg casualties located from map references, rescued and brought back the 2km to base on stretchers.

Congratulations to all on going ahead and showing true Telstar grit.

Over €1000 was raised towards the Telstar ScoutHome building fund.

Winners of the Quiz were :-

• Crumpets with 55/66
• Woggles with 52/66
• Bottom of the class with 48.5/66

The Tombola included two bottles of antique whisky – 15 years old when bottled but forgotten in a Luxembourg cellar for at least 30 years. Both bottles had an individual pedigree identified from the Web.

Thanks to Chapter One, Ferrero  and AngloAmerican for their support on donating Tombola prizes.

Some of the activities on the Saturday had the Cubs playing giant versions of Connect4, Mikado and Skittles. They also made spinning tops and finger puppets. There was a walk in the forest just before it got dark and, in the evening, there was a campfire followed by a disco with the Scouts attending the PL/APL weekend at the same venue.

On the Sunday the Cubs had an indoor table football competition using the puppets they made the day before. There was also a wide game outdoors, with the Cubs playing various games and riding go-karts and scooters to earn points.

                                                                                       

 Catherine - Duchess of Cambridge has volunteered to help with Beavers and Cubs in a group close to where she is living in North Wales.

The Duchess has chosen to volunteer because she has been so impressed by the impact that we have on young people and on our communities.

Like many people The Duchess is incredibly busy but she has decided that she can fit her role around her other duties and obligations.

The UK Scout Association realised some years ago that it had to be accessible to all potential volunteers; not just those who could commit to regular weekly meetings.
