In 1979, 1983, 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2007 we had the pleasure of sending members to the World Jamboree. In 1998 we sent members both with the British Contingent and with FNEL. This is a privilege, something which would have been much more difficult in Britain where competition for places is fierce. It is only possible here because many members of BSWE have parents in the forces who cannot commit themselves two years in advance, leaving places for the more settled members.

One of the best moments came in 1985 when Telstar finally joined FNEL. The Group follows the Scout Association Training Scheme and wears UK Scout uniform. We join in FNEL activities where we can as well as Benelux Districts and BSWE County events. The promise made is an official, modified version of the British one used by many Groups abroad.

On my honour I promiseThat

I will do my best

To do my duty to God

And to the country in which I am now living

To help other people

And to keep the Scout Law.

Membership of FNEL has brought many benefits. By helping our members to integrate with local Scouts we help to promote international Scouting and foster good relations. FNEL Leaders have always been most welcoming and we look forward to continuing this good relationship in the future. FNEL boasts three foreign groups amongst its members: Robert Schumann (French), Eclaireurs(euses) Danois (Danish – currently dormant) and Telstar. Two of our members, who were too young for a UK leader warrant, became Leaders with a FNEL Group. We feel that this is international Scouting at its best.
