Two Packs, One Big Adventure
Cub Scouts, formerly known as Wolf Cubs since their inception in 1916, are boys and girls aged 8 to 10½. At this exciting stage of Scouting, Cubs build on the foundations laid in Beavers, diving deeper into teamwork, outdoor adventure, and skill-building. The Cubs meet in groups called Packs, each led by a Cub Scout Leader, traditionally known as Akela. A Pack can have up to 36 Cubs, with smaller teams called Sixes led by Sixers and supported by Seconders.
At Telstar, there are two thriving Cub Packs:
- Mowgli Pack, led by Akela Kira Stewart, meets on Tuesdays from 18:00 to 19:30 at FNEL.
- Baloo Pack, led by Akela Alexandra Czapiewska, meets on Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:30 at FNEL HQ.
In Cubs, activities are designed to promote personal growth while being fun and engaging. Each Pack organises Cubs into Sixes, smaller teams where Sixers take on leadership roles and learn responsibility, supported by their Seconders. The Sixers also participate in a Pack Leadership Forum, where they can voice their ideas and contribute to decisions about the Pack's activities. Weekly meetings focus on teamwork, adventure, and learning through games, challenges, and skill-building activities.
How It Works
Cubs follow the UK Scout Association programme, earning badges across a wide range of skills — outdoor adventure, creative projects, community service, and more. Sixers and Seconders also take part in a Pack Leadership Forum where they help shape what the Pack does next. It's structured enough to give Cubs a clear sense of progress, but flexible enough that every term feels different.

What Cubs Do
Each Pack is divided into small teams called Sixes, led by a Sixer and Seconder — Cubs' first taste of real leadership. Weekly meetings are packed with hands-on activities, and recent highlights include:
- Cycling around St. George's Kiss and Fly
- Backwoods cooking at Thillsmillen
- Building wind-powered buggies at the International School of Luxembourg (DIY badge)
- Working towards Emergency Aid and Entertainer badges
Beyond weekly meetings, Cubs go on camps, sleepovers, and expeditions. Both Packs have a strong track record — Mowgli and Baloo jointly earned the FNEL Bonne Meute Award at the BSO District Camp, and Balloo won it again at the FNEL Sixplo event.
Cubs is all about learning, adventure, and making friends in a supportive environment. Whether building confidence through hands-on projects or exploring the great outdoors, Telstar Cubs have endless opportunities for growth and fun.
